Juicebox Vol 2, Side A, Track 3: “My Anxious Soul” by James Barrett.

James Barrett leads fellow bandmates Angelo Maruzzelli, Doug Griffiths, and Tyler Barrett in the culmination of his musical career so far. Writing music since age 12, James has taken influences from The Gaslight Anthem and NEPA’s own Menzingers. His roots, family, youth, and undeniable passion for music have given him the endearing emotion you hear in every song. Cutting his teeth early on in his band Embera, James found his footing in the music industry. The dissolution of this group saw James once again moving on to a solo career, releasing one EP and two full length albums. In 2017 – and again in 2018 – he realized a huge personal milestone and opened for The Menzingers as part of their annual hometown Holiday Show. James’s song, “Something Grand,” was also featured in the 2018 Honest Sounds: An Honest Face Records Compilation, a project which saw half of the proceeds donated to Planned Parenthood.

Beginning in August of 2018, James began work on The Price of Comfort, an album which shows James’s veteran return to full band. “This is an album I spent years writing songs for and began tracking last August.” James said. After a 10 month long process recording and refining the album with his friend Jake Checkoway in Philadelphia, James has finally seen his vision come to life. James brought his brother, Tyler Barrett, in to perform drums on the recording as well as his friend Doug Griffiths to track additional guitar tracks. Angelo Maruzzelli also steps in to play bass live. Listen to James perform “The First Days of July”, the first single released from The Price of Comfort live for our official launch of Juicebox season 2.
