Juicebox Vol 1, Side D, Track 3: “Something Else, Pt. 1” by E57.
E57 takes you on an emotional melodic journey this week with “Something Else, Pt. 1,” which was originally inspired by Josh Zurek’s experimentation with a borrowed delay pedal. “Part 1” was written after “Part 2” but they were later swapped for story-line continuity. “The name stems from the band’s first attempt to steer away from the Pirate EP,” Christopher Sheerin said. “At first we just referred to them as something else 1 and 2.” The song features three solos from lead guitarist Michael “Duds” McDonald which explore the full range of Duds’ writing style. “The first solo serves almost as a second intro, opening you up to the heavy nature of the song,” Duds explained. In the second solo, you can hear his signature melodic shredding style. “For the third solo, I wanted to just be off the wall and bring some in-your-face shredding while maintaining the emotional expression carried through the rest of the song.” E57 does an amazing job of balancing sonic dynamics in “Something Else, Pt. 1.” It has a way of pulling you in and investing you in the story while also maintaining its validity as a stand alone piece. So open up your ear holes and get ready for a Juicebox story time – E57 style.
